APARTMENT ON FOUR WHEELS
Which Is The Best Means of Transport To Discover The World?
Before we took a final decision on our truck we had to pass through many researches, discussions and inspections. And it was absolutely necessary. It was the only way to be able to get an idea of our future vehicle. Apart from this it helped to develop our specific plans.
One thing is certain: You will never find the only one and best of all vehicles. It will always be a compromise. The personal needs of each traveler are too individual and the observations that have to be made while planning and desciding are too complex .
What Do We Want to Have?
With our vehicle we wanted to manage even rough terrain. It should be our home for a longer term and transport our whole equipment for several activities and our daily life. Apart from this we also attached importance to the possibility to survive a period of one or two weeks independently from power supply, water connection and shopping facilities. All of this with some comfort, of course. In short – we had many wishes.
From the very beginning we knew that only flexibility and the willingness to accept compromises for setting up our new nomadic life will lead to a good solution.
We thought through and inspected all kind of vehicles ranging from an easy to handle 4-wheel drive VW bus and a compact sport-utility vehicle to an all-terrain truck. Especially Win delved into mostly technical details, which I preferred to view from a save distance. Because it is too easy for me to get distracted from the essential parts by colors or appealing design.
Does that exist?
Very soon during our researches we came across ACTION MOBIL in Austria, who is a renowned manufacturer for well-conceived all-terrain campers and comfortable expedition vehicles. When we visited the company in Saalfelden the chance and the perfect timing were on our side, like in many other cases these days. A long-term customer of ACTION MOBIL offered his used, ten years old and very well maintained vehicle for sale.

It was love at first sight.
It took us a few phone calls and one inspection and the deal was done. I will never forget my husband’s bright eyes, the moment the barn door opened and he saw „him“ live for the first time. At that moment I knew the decision to buy the truck has already been taken and my agreement had a purely decorative character.
May I mention that we did not even have the license to drive a 12 tonne truck at that time.
Since December 2014 this imposing vehicle is part of our family. Hardly a day went by without thinking of „him“ and what he might need or we would like to modify according to our requirements.
Master craftsman, upholsterer, motor home builder, rim doctor, painter, carpenter, metalworker, electrician, sound expert – our truck has stopped off at countless experts to get better every time and to be perfectly prepared for our journey.
